Do Mice Taste Just Like Chicken?

By: EarthKind

yellow_chickEverybody’s heard that expression, “Tastes just like chicken!”  This line is used most often to describe something that is perhaps a little offensive or unsavory, or at least unconventional and maybe a bit unappealing.  Relating foods like this to the universally loved chicken is an attempt to make them more palatable.  Have you ever said it before?  Has anyone told you something “tastes just like chicken,” trying to get you to eat something?  Did it, in fact, taste like chicken?

We haven’t held any taste tests ourselves, but we couldn’t help wondering if this doesn’t hold true for mice.  Do mice taste like chicken?  A little internet research (because I was certainly not going to conduct any experiments on my own – I’m so stocked up on Fresh Cab®, I haven’t seen a mouse in years!) has shown that in some cultures, mice are a delicacy.  At the very least, mice can serve as a viable source of protein.  Looking at the matter more scientifically, it is probable that mice taste similar to other tetrapods (four legged animals), as a result of common ancestry.  No matter what Google tells me, I am in no rush to find out what mice taste like for myself!

Aside from the culinary possibilities poultry has to offer, many people enjoy raising backyard chickens.

Keeping chickens offer many benefits, including but not limited to:

  • Fresh eggs/meat
  • Fertilizer
  • Interesting pets
  • Bug Control
  • Showing/exhibitions

Unfortunately, along with all the benefits come a few concerns, including but not limited to:

  • Zoning regulations
  • Demands on your time
  • Bothersome to neighbors
  • Attracting predators/pests

A little research and soul searching can resolve most of these issues.  As for the pest problems, we are happy to point out that although rodents may be attracted to chicken coops with their ready supplies of food, water, and nesting materials, Fresh Cab Rodent Repellent is completely safe to use around chickens.  Fresh Cab is made of botanical ingredients and guaranteed to keep rats and mice away.
