Earth-Kind has partnered with Epic Enterprise for many years to employ disabled individuals. Since being labeled with a learning disability as a young child, supporting disabled people has always been important to Earth-Kind's CEO and Farmer-in-Charge, Kari Block. This partnership has brought about many inspiring and fulfilling memories, as well as great business success.
Today, we'd like to take a moment to observe World Down Syndrome Day. Down Syndrome is a condition that occurs when an individual has a third copy (either partial of full) of the 21st chromosome, making 3/21 a symbolic date to create awareness. The National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) has sponsored a campaign called "My Great Story." Anyone with a positive story about someone with Down Syndrome is invited to share. Over 550 stories have been gathered so far.
The workers who assemble Fresh Cab Natural Rodent Repellent and Earth-Kind's All Natural Air Fresheners do not all necessarily have Down Syndrome but experience a variety of conditions and support the objectives of NDSS and this day.
We'd like to share a great story by one of our workers, Kasey Sell:
"In January 11th, 2010 I started to work at Earth-Kind at first I didn’t know anybody, but when I walked in there. I saw some people that went to school with me, some of them.
Then I met Diane and Amy – they are nice in person, they are really good bosses and plus they are good to everybody! To Mankato group and EPIC group, and that is the TRUTH.
And PS… we who make the FRESH CAB rodent repellent and many different stuff at Earth-Kind, all of us for the main boss, her name is Kari. She is a really nice person."
We encourage everyone to take the time to learn more about members of our society who may be overlooked, build new relationships, and work together to make meaningful contributions.
