Because of this, she created a K-12 education program celebrating 2021’s Year of the Monarch: The Harmony Hero Award. Each month, a board of entomologists, scientists, and conservationists nominated a K-12 teacher committed to offering hands-on programming that connected students with nature and protected the monarch butterfly- an iconic symbol for environmental health. The chief goal of Harmony Heroes was to promote trailblazers in eco-education and to share their stories. A hands-on education of children not only improves their math and science skills and social and emotional intelligence but also fosters their desire to create positive change for the Planet. “Kids are the inventors of our future,” Warberg Block says, “so it’s the teachers who need our support.”
